Without hesitation the Guardia Civil used rubber bullets and tear gas on the 6th of February in Tarajal (Morocco), to stop migrants who tried to reach Ceuta by swimming, killing at least 15 people.
In autumn 2015, the judge concerned with the case closed the proceedings against 16 Guardia Civil who were sued by Spanish NGOs. To commemorate the tragedy of Tarajal and in solidarity with the migrants, numerous activities will take place in France, Germany, Belgium, Spain and the Netherlands.
The European Union is to be held responsible to a considerable extent for this tragedy, due to the externalisation of border control on the African continent, the militarisation of the border regime and the construction of walls in collaboration with countries of the Global South.
Facing the dramatic situation of migrants and refugees we declare our solidarity in particular with Sub-Saharan migrants and refugees who die in the desert far from television cameras, and those who die daily in the Mediterranean Sea and who are refused any support under the pretext that they are “illegal”!
The mobilisation network for the 6th of February 2016 calls activists, citizens and migrants to attent the Sit-in and Conference in Berlin!
